DESCRIPTION:

Currently available for Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur and Yamim Tovim, as well as other periods (see Availability below). $42 per night.

Location: bright, airy two-room apartment in quiet area of Baka, one minute walk through a path over the recently completed HaMesilah pedestrian/jogging/bicycle promenade and park (see photo from LR/DR window), then through another pleasant park adorned with rose bushes, to "trendy" (restaurants, coffee houses, bakeries, ice cream parlors, etc.) Emek Refaim and German Colony. Convenient bus service (18, 21,14, 4, 4A, 49) on Emek Refaim, but you can also make the walk to downtown (Kikar Tzion/Ben Yehudah, King George) in about half an hour (Davidka, Shuk 40 minutes). Both campuses of Hebrew University, for example, are directly accessible by at least one bus line (4A Mount Scopus, 14 to Givat Ram campus). Other lines nearby.

Walk to Old City is about 15 minutes or less time if you take a bus, which stops at new Mamilla Mall, about five minutes' walk from Jaffa Gate. Several buses also connect to city light rail line and to old and new train stations. Many forms of public transport to reach Central Bus Station or Sheruts (communal taxis) for trips to other venues in Israel. Taxis run constantly along Emek Refaim at all hours. Walking distance to over half a dozen major supermarkets (most of whom provide home delivery service) Pizza and hamburger home delivery from, e.g., Pizza Sababa and Burger Bar on Emek Refaim, and other restaurants deliver, as well.

Apartment has been completely renovated, from top to bottom, plumbing and wiring included. A/C and heating (separate in living room and bedroom). All appliances except dishwasher (will purchase when we find a model that is entirely kasherable on the inside): Bauknecht washer/dryer, large Phillips and Samsung flat-screen LCD TVs, cable TV, high-speed wired and wireless Internet, and whatnot. Pots and pans, cutlery, etc. are virtually all either all-metal (kasherable) or glass. Siemens oven is electric and self-cleaning (i.e., kashering), stove-top (hob) is gas and self-lighting, large Amana stainless steel fridge, two Franke stainless steel kitchen sinks. Microwave. Quality dining room table, expandable, with five chairs (sixth currently under repair). Lots of storage space and shelves. Computer desk.

Comfortable, quality couches in living room and bedroom convert easily into double beds. Plenty of high-quality bedding, linen, towels, etc.

Price (see below) also includes a once-a-week general cleaning service, i.e., a cleaning person comes in to do an overview cleaning of the apartment (floor, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom; does not do laundry, dishes, etc., or make beds)

Numerous Sephardi and Ashkenazi synagogues very close, some practically next door. Other places of worship also near, by walking or bus.

Makolet (grocery store) is opposite to the back of the building, with several other mini-markets in the vicinity.

As assessed by our guests, the apartment interior has a luxury look and feel (pls see feedback comments below). Lovely views of the valley leading up to Rehavia, and, of course, of the Mesilah Promenade). Apartment is on the fourth floor and requires a walk-up. This is not a long trudge, however, and there are landings between each floor to break the short climb.

CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT

Check-in/Check-out: as all principals responsible for renting or maintaining this department are Shabbat-observant, we regret that we cannot accommodate arrivals or departures that would come close to overlapping on the Sabbath (i.e., from two hours before dusk on Friday to two hours after nightfall on Saturday or religious holidays).

PRICING

Price: U.S. $49.00 or Canadian $49.00 dollars--whichever exchange rate is higher at the time of payment--per night for maximum of two people (i.e., same price for one or two persons). Third person: additional $24.50 per night. Price goes up one-third during major Jewish holidays and period December 15 to January 7

Every seventh night is free. That means $42 per night or $294 per week (for maximum two persons).

This apartment is not child-friendly. Mature teenager acceptable, along with adult(s).

Minimum stay: one week

Payment for the entire stay via PayPal, in cash, or other acceptable means, is required prior to or immediately on check-in. If PayPal used, landlord and renter share PayPal fees at either end (this can be paid on check-in or will be deducted from the security deposit, minus 50% of PayPal fees incurred by visitor). Checks normally not acceptable (the bank in Israel takes generous bites out of deposits and withdrawals). We will, however, accept checks drawn on a U.S., Canadian or European bank, provided funds are received at least one month prior to arrival, so we have time to deposit check in a North American bank and funds clear prior to arrival. In addition to PayPal, wire/email transfer from a U.S., Canadian, EU bank is fine.

We require a security deposit in advance, at time of reservation, equal to one week's rate per month or part of month the person/s is/are staying, in order to confirm the reservation.The deposit will be returned on check-out minus any charges for egregious damage to or loss in the apartment, plus any outrageous charges for use of utilities, Video on Demand (this feature is usually blocked) plus any unanticipated individual third-party stays during visit or other expenses related to unusual or unreasonable use or treatment of facilities. Thus far, with a background of excellent visitors, we have not had to deduct anything from the deposit for these reasons.

Cancellation: security deposit will be returned in full minus $30 dollars up to 72 hours from time of reservation confirmation. Thereafter,any additional cancellation fee will depend on proximity to actual beginning of stay.

In case of cancellation, any advance payment for the actual stay itself will be refunded 100%.

TELEPHONE

At the current time, it is not possible to provide a land line phone in the apartment. This is because of the technical difficulties involved in blocking or controlling international and similar calls from an Israeli land or cable line. Many visitors bring a cell phone with them or rent it from a variety of sources prior to arrival or at the airport. We will be happy to help you with finding an appropriate service or with downloading a very reasonable telephone program to your computer, besides Skype.
